Washington State can make a difference

Washington voters are sending Biden a clear message: We want a CEASEFIRE NOW! In the March 12 Washington Democratic Presidential primary, we are filling out the UNCOMMITTED DELEGATES bubble because we strongly reject the Biden Administration’s funding of war and genocide in Gaza. Biden must earn our vote through a dramatic change in policy.

Washington State has been a leader in the ceasefire movement since day one. Washington cities have been among the first in the nation to pass ceasefire resolutions, with dozens of statewide elected officials, faith leaders, community activists and thousands of everyday Washingtonians signing on to the Washington Solidarity Statement that also called for an end to the violence in Gaza. 

President Biden has been a successful candidate in the past by representing a broad coalition, but right now, he’s not representing the vast majority of Democrats who want a ceasefire and an end to his funding of Israel’s war in Gaza. He is not representing many of us, including young people and voters of color who turned out in record numbers to put him in office — but who are now out protesting his policies in the streets.

Biden MUST do better and in order to pressure his administration into representing the will of the voters who are the very reason he is in office in the first place, we ask everyone to VOTE UNCOMMITTED on their ballot for the Presidential primaries.

Why & How to Vote Uncommitted:

  • 1) Vote Democratic. Because this is a Presidential Primary, for this specific election, you must mark and sign a Party Declaration for your vote to count. This doesn't impact your general election vote in November, only this Presidential Primary.

  • 2) Vote Uncommitted. On your ballot received in the mail, follow instructions to fill in the circle next to "Uncommitted Delegates." Do NOT write in ANYTHING.

  • 3. Sign and date. Remember: your vote matters! Ensure your ballot is counted by signing and dating it before submission. Your signature and date are crucial steps in the voting process and are required for your vote to count.

  • Why vote Uncommitted Delegates?

    It's more strategic to push the person likely to make it through to the general before the general, and we want Biden to match the will of the people who overwhelmingly want to see the the war and genocide stop. As far as the Democratic National Convention strategy, progressive delegates aren't given much teeth in practice and the committees are selected separately, so this is a more effective method for pushing inside the tent while folks are already pushing outside. Should Biden wish to widen the gap between himself and Trump, he will need voters who will only support him if he stops funding the war in Gaza.

  • Uncommitted works

    In 2008, Obama did not make the ballot in the Michigan primaries but his campaign mobilized young, Black, and brown voters to vote “uncommitted” as an impactful way to have their voices heard. This sent a message about Obama’s popularity from Democratic voters to their Party’s establishment.
